Who we are

Douras.com is a surname research project owned and operated by Paul Douras in the United Kingdom. Paul Douras is the data controller for personal information processed through this website. Privacy enquiries, and requests to exercise your data protection rights, can be sent to [email protected].

What we collect

If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, normally your name, email address and message. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or information about living people unless it is necessary and you are entitled to share it.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

We use contact details to receive, manage and respond to enquiries, corrections and research correspondence. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR: operating this family-history resource and responding to people who contact it. We consider this limited use proportionate because you choose what to send, we do not use it for advertising or profiling, and you can object at any time.

Service providers and international transfers

When the contact form is enabled, Formspree processes submissions on our behalf and may store them in the United States. Formspree states that it uses contractual safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses, for relevant international transfers. Cloudflare delivers and protects the website and may process limited network and security data through its global infrastructure. Our email provider processes messages sent directly to us. These providers process data only to supply their services; we do not share contact data with advertisers or data brokers.

Cookies and local storage

We do not use analytics, advertising cookies or behavioural tracking. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies. The colour-theme control stores one preference, douras-theme, in your browser’s local storage. It contains only the value “light” or “dark” and is not sent to us.

Retention

We aim to delete routine enquiries within 24 months of the last substantive contact. We may retain a message for longer where it forms part of an ongoing research exchange, records an editorial correction, or is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal rights. Formspree and our other processors may retain limited backups according to their own published schedules.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also withdraw any consent where consent applies. Email [email protected] to make a request; we may need to verify your identity before acting.

Please contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Details are available at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes

We will update this notice if the site begins using analytics or if its forms, providers or purposes change. This policy was last reviewed 26 July 2026.
